From 22 to 31 January 2027, the Principality hosts the Monte-Carlo Circus Festival, for a 49th edition presided over by H.S.H. Princess Stéphanie. Founded in 1974 by Prince Rainier III, the event has become the most prestigious gathering in the circus world, often compared to the Oscars for its prestige and the rigour of its jury.
A ten-day programme
The festival opens with two selection programmes presented from 22 to 24 January, giving audiences the chance to discover the competing artists ahead of the awards. The gala evening and Golden Clown ceremony take place on Tuesday 26 January at 7.30pm, followed by the Winners’ Show from 27 to 31 January, bringing together the award-winning acts. An ecumenical celebration is also scheduled under the big top on 25 January at 7pm. This edition also marks the 14th New Generation showcase, dedicated to young circus talent.
A demanding jury, a remarkable line-up
Acrobats, jugglers, animal trainers, tightrope walkers and clowns from around the world compete for the prestigious Golden and Silver Clown awards, presented by a jury of professionals under the legendary Chapiteau de Fontvieille. Each evening’s show runs nearly 3.5 hours, blending circus tradition with contemporary feats.
Extend the spectacle from Hôtel Miramar
After an evening under the big top, nothing beats returning to calm. Hôtel Miramar, in Cap d’Ail, offers a sea-facing terrace and a soothing atmosphere to close out these festival days in a genuinely Mediterranean mood.
